Root Protective Slurry
Root Protective Slurry
8 oz package
Especially recommended for bare-root evergreens.
Root protective slurry is a super-absorbent polymer (cross linked 100 percent pure potassium polyacrylate). It is a nontoxic and nonirritant compound with an absorption rate of more than 500 times its weight in water. As a root dip, it protects sensitive roots from drying during the planting operation and absorbs water from the soil, which is readily available to the roots. It also can be incorporated into the backfill.
The root protective slurry sold through the Kansas Conservation Tree Planting Program is sold in 1/2 pound units. The brand name of the slurry is Stockosorb®.
How To Use:
Mix 1 ounce, or 2 rounded tablespoons, of polymer and 1/4 cup fine soil per 1 gallon of water and stir thoroughly. Allow the polymer solution to hydrate for at least 20 minutes. The hydrated slurry should be the consistency of thick honey. Add polymer or water as needed. Dip bare root seedlings into the slurry and move them around to ensure the roots are coated by the slurry. Excess hydrated polymer can be incorporated into the backfill at a rate of 1 1/2 cups per hole. Do not expose hydrated slurry to direct sunlight for long periods
